A brake system with slip control is proposed, in which the brake pressure in the wheel brakes is influenced by discharge of pressure medium into a reservoir (valve 14) or by topping up of brake pressure medium by means of a hydraulic pump (16, 17) (valve 13). Should the pump (16 and 17) fail, the discharged pressure medium must be re-delivered from the brake master cylinder (1), thereby exhausting its volume of pressure medium. Flow sensors (27, 37) are therefore provided either in the pressure line (19, 20) or in the suction line (18) by means of which it can be detected whether the pumps (16, 17) are delivering. If it is detected that delivery is absent, the brake slip control is interrupted, that is the outlet valves remain in their closed positions. <IMAGE>
