The invention relates to a process and an arrangement for storing telephone messages in a telephone private branch exchange having a central processing unit (CPU), having exchanges (T1...Tn) connected to the exchange via interfaces (IF), having a switching device (VME) and having memory devices (SPT1...SPTn) for receiving the telephone messages, the central processing unit (CPU) being involved in storing telephone messages intended for the exchanges (T1...Tn) in the memory devices (SPT1...SPTn) and calling them up from the latter. A first command, directed to the central processing unit (CPU), can be generated by the switching device (VME), causing calls coming in at the switching device (VME) to be diverted to the memory devices (SPT1...SPTn). The telephone messages issued during the calls are stored in the memory devices. The calling-up of the telephone messages from the memory devices (SPT1...SPTn) to the exchanges (T1...Tn) can be initiated only by a second instruction of the switching device (VME) directed to the central processing unit (CPU). The arrival of messages in the memory devices (SPT1...SPTn) is signalled at exchanges (T1...Tn) by means of an optical and/or acoustic display device (ANZ).
