The illuminating device of a cross wire (cross hair, reticle) (19) in a target scope (optical sight) consists of a light-collecting, luminescent body (18) which is designed in such a manner that it emits visible radiation in a concentrated manner near the cross hair (19). For this purpose, the luminescent body (18) has collecting surfaces (20, 21) for collecting ambient radiation and radiation coming from the object. The collected radiation is passed to the mounting edge (22) and the radiation which is emitted there illuminates the cross hair (19) in a grazing manner (Figure 4). <IMAGE>
