In a device for the thermochemical cutting of thin workpieces of iron, steel or the like, a cutting torch for especially thick workpieces, which is thus amply dimensioned, is arranged at an angle so that the cutting stream starts with the initial cutting at the bottom edge. The angle to the plane of the top or underside of the workpiece is very small and amounts to about 5@ and more.
