The invention relates to a process and an arrangement for controlling a telephone private branch exchange. The telephone private branch exchange has a switching computer (VR), a switching matrix (KF), extensions (T1...Tn) connected via interfaces (IF), memory devices (SPT1...SPTn) and timing elements (CLT1...CLTn), which are assigned to the switching computer (VR) and are extension-specific, and also a memory (T), which contains values (Wi) which are likewise assigned to the switching computer (VR) and are actuation-specific. Upon first-time actuation of an exchange (T1) by lifting the telephone receiver except when there is incoming traffic or by triggering an instruction directed at the computer (VR), the timing element (CLT1) is activated for a first period (t1). Upon each actuation of the extension (T1) within (t1), the computer (VR) stores an actuation-specific individual value (Wi) in the memory device (SPT1), forms the sum of the individual values (Wi+Wi-1) and compares this with a limit value (G). Upon reaching or exceeding the limit value (G), the exchange is blocked for a period (t2) or released only for incoming traffic. The values (Wi) correspond to the computer capacity called upon by the respective actuations. The invention prevents any improper actuation of extensions. <IMAGE>
