The prestressed concrete structure such as a bridge has the prestressing force applied by cables which may consist of single wires or may consist of multiple strands. The individual strands or wires are enclosed in a plastics coating to protect them from corrosion. When the multiple strands are used they are enclosed in a tubular plastic housing (3) and protection against corrosion is further improved by embedding the plastics covered individual strands in cement (5) which is pressed into the tubular housing (3).
