CLAMPING TYPE CABINET LOCK A lock includes interengageable assemblies for mounting on a cabinet door and its door frame for clamping the door closed. In preferred practice, the lock includes 1) an operating unit that has strike-engaging formations in the form of rollers which are mounted on at least one projecting arm, and 2) one or more strike units, with each strike unit having a channel and being operable to receive and releasably retain in its channel such rollers as are carried on a separate one of the projecting arm or arms. The operating unit includes a pivotally mounted handle for positioning the projecting arm or arms. When a plurality of projecting arms are utilized, the operating unit includes an operating member that moves the arms in unison. The handle is movable between a nested position and an operating position. Preferably a lost-motion, toggle type linkage drivingly connects the handle and the operating member. The linkage provides mechanical advantage to aid the operator both in opening and closing the door so that such resistance forces as may be offered to door movement by various forms of gasketing and/or emission shields can be overcome with ease. When the handle is in its operating position, the arm-carried rollers are positioned for entry into and withdrawal from the strike channels. Once the rollers have entered the strike channels, pivotal movement of the handle toward its nested position will cause the rollers to move in unison along the strike channels, thereby causing a wedging action that "draws" or clamps the door snugly toward the door frame. The strike unit has a spring biased track member that engages the rollers to bounce the door toward an open position if an attempt is made to close the door while the handle is in its nested position, i.e., while the rollers are out of proper orientation for insertion into the strike channels.
|
