PURPOSE:To increase the efficiency of removing the radioactivity of released gases by providing >=1 nozzles having the bore smaller than the bore of vent pipes to the submerged parts of the vent pipes in such a manner that the apertures thereof are positioned upper than the bottom end of the bent pipes and lower than the water surface. CONSTITUTION:The nozzles 6 are provided to the mid-points of the vent pipes 5 of a reactor container. A valve 8 of a release system 7 is opened in order to protect the container 1 in the case of presuming an overpressure accident. The radioactive materials released from a reactor core 9 are entrained in the form of aerosol in the gases and re emitted into a suppression pool 4 through the vent pipes and the nozzles 6. Since the diameter of the nozzles 6 is small, these materials are mixed in the form of extremely small air bubbles with the water. The greater part of the aerosols are, thereupon, dissolved into the suppression pool and only the slight radioactive materials are entrained in the top of the water surface. A large volume of steam is released and is emitted from the bottom ends of the vent pipes into the suppression pool where the steam is condensed in the case of accident of the loss of coolant, but since the diameter is small, the sufficient condensation is executed and the materials coming onto the water surface in the state of steam is very slight in quantity. |
