METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PROCESSING IDEOGRAM

PURPOSE: To use an entered character for display, print and data storage or the like by allowing a computer to retrieve a character with the same stroke identification characteristic as that of the entered character by the operator from a database and to provide an output of the character in matching with the entered character. CONSTITUTION: A computer 150 is connected to an operator input device 154, a printer 156 and a video monitor 160 or the like via an I/O interface 168. The device 154 includes a key board 178 and a data tablet 180. The key board 178 is used to enter a general instruction to the computer 150. The tablet 180 is used to enter a position of a Chinese ideographic character hand-written by the operator to the computer 150. An image scanner 164 scans the printed Chinese character and digitizes each character in a 120×120 dot bit map.
