The tool consists of a ground-engaging dibble head (13), to which are connected two shafts which form a parallelogram linkage in combination with the dibble. One (14) of the shafts is connected to a driving system, while the other (15) consists of two elements 816, 17) elastically locked against one another. - The two elements are capable of relative axial displacement to vary the length of the second shaft in response to a ground-penetrating load applied to the dibble. An internal flexible strap (18) connects the two elements and restricts their length against the bias of their elastic spring connection (21).
