Friction barrier pile jacket

The pile includes smooth vertical surfaces surrounded by backfill and a friction barrier pile jacket surrounding the pile. The jacket comprises sheet material conforming to the shape of the vertical surfaces of the pile. The sheet material comprises opposed inner and outer surfaces and spacers maintaining the inner and outer surfaces in spaced parallel relationship. - The inner surfaces of the sheet material face the pile to be maintained in a relatively smooth shape by the outer surfaces of the pile. The outer surfaces of the sheet material are engaged by the backfill with indentations formed by the backfill and increase the coefficient of friction between the backfill and the outer surface.
