The invention relates to a method for controlling the vulcanisation of a thick-walled article in the cavity of a mould. According to the invention, the heat-radiating capacity of a thick-walled article, which is vulcanised by a hot liquid supplying heat on one side of the wall, makes it possible for the point of least vulcanisation to receive a greater amount of vulcanisation equivalents, even after replacing the hot liquid by a cold liquid; the other side of the wall continues to be heated; since such a change is effected before PLC has received the minimum number of vulcanisation equivalents which are required to effect a vulcanisation to the PLC, an arrangement of valves V1-8, CV1-CV3 is provided which allows the change to be effected without a pressure drop, in the bladder, sufficient to allow the pneumatic tyre to be inflated because it is not vulcanised when the change is effected; such a prevulcanisation change cannot be made when the steam is replaced by water at room temperature. The invention applies in particular to pneumatic tyres. <IMAGE>
