An improved fibrinolytic compsn. comprises (a) a fibrinolytic enzyme (I) and (b) a surface-active copolymer of formula HO-(C2H4O)b(C3H6O)a(C2H4O)bH (II) (where a is an integer such that the hydrophobe represented by (C3H6O) has a mol. wt. of 950-4000 and b is an integer such that the hydrophile portion represented by (C2H4O) constitutes 50-90 wt.% of the cpd.). (I) is e.g. tissue plasminogen activator, streptokinase or urokinase. Also claimed are methods for (a) improving blood flow and oxygenation of a tumour by injecting a soln. of (II); (b) treating sickle cell disease by injecting a soln. of (II); (c) preventing the recurrence of thrombosis associated with atheriosclerosis by injecting a soln. of (II) and (d) preservation of an ex vivo organ by perfusing the organ with a soln. comprising blood, an anticoagulant and (II). |
