The tightening device has a cable drive 12 actuatable in the event of a crash. The cable pulley 11 is connectible to belt winding shaft 10 of the belt reeling device via a locking member 14. The latter is eccentrically mounted on the cable pulley and has teeth 15 thereon which can be brought into engagement with circumferential teeth 17 (locking position) on thrust ring 16 connected with the belt winding shaft 10. The locking member 14 is biased by a leaf spring 20 towards the locking position but is held in its initial rest position shown by an arm (23, Fig 2) on a spring ring 22. Relative movement between the cable pulley 11 and housing displaces the arm (23) to thereby allow pin 18 to move along slot 19 and enable the locking member (14) to be moved into its locking position. In an alternative arrangement (Figs 5 and 6), a radial resilient arm (26) cooperates with an annular ratchet (28) to hold the locking member (14) in its rest position. <IMAGE> |
