PURPOSE: To reduce the cost of a large-quantity digital storage device by storing the text information of a book in the form of encoded analog signals on a magnetic tape and providing the book with a digital buffer capable of storing the data quantity corresponding to at least some pages of the book. CONSTITUTION: The book 10 of the electronic system is similar to a book of a hard cover sized about 7×10×1.5 inches and a cassette player 14 houses a cassette 16 storing the text information in an analog form. The text information is supplied through suitable circuits to a liquid crystal display device(LCD) screen 18. Software maintains this information into another buffer region in such a manner that the information is immediately accessed when a user requests the table of contents or requests a jump to another section or page. As a result, a reader is capable of advancing and returning to and from several pages at all times without waiting for the operation of a tape mechanism and, therefore, the storage of the information equal to the many paper books of hard copies to one cassette tape and the utilization thereof are made possible.
