The invention relates to a shut-off element for fluid media with a housing which has a housing inlet and a housing outlet and with a pivoting shaft which is mounted in the housing and carries a shut-off element that can be adjusted between an open position and a closed position with the aid of the pivoting shaft. To allow the flow rate in conduits or conduit systems to be determined without pressure loss by means of at least one shut-off member, the housing should have at least one pressure take-off branch both in the region of the housing inlet and in the region of the housing outlet, the pressure take-off branches being arranged on that side of the housing which approaches the housing outlet-side end of the shut-off element on its way to the lowest position.
