In order to transmit pulse signals having binary values "0" and "1", it is proposed that the binary values "0" and "1" of the pulse train are converted on the transmitting side into pulses of different length, and that a pulse train having binary values "0" and "1" is derived anew on the receiving side with the aid of the pulses of different length. As a result, a serial high-speed data transmission at baud rates of several megabytes/sec can be performed without simultaneous transmission of a synchronising clock pulse (signed), i.e. via a single-channel conductor.
