PURPOSE:To reduce a loss and to reduce driving power by a method wherein a Brewster surface plate equipped with an ultrasonic transducer at a side face is contained inside an optical resonator and high-frequency electric power is impressed on the ultrasonic transducer in order to change an output. CONSTITUTION:If a voltage from a DC power supply 7 is impressed between an anode 14 and a cathode 13 of a discharge tube 1, an electric discharge is caused inside the discharge tube 1. Directions of mirrors 4, 5 for optical resonator use are adjusted so as to cause a laser oscillation. High-frequency electric power 8 is impressed on an ultrasonic transducer 6. The high-frequency electric power 8 can be switched on and off and, additionally, its intensity can be modualted. If the high-frequency electric power 8 is impressed on the ultrasonic transducer 6, the ultrasonic transducer generates ultrasonic waves; a compression wave is caused inside a Brewster window 3; a beam passing this part is diffracted or refracted, and one part of the beam is bent. Accordingly, a loss is caused inside an optical resonator and a laser output is decreased. If the high-frequency electric power 8 becomes stronger, the laser oscillation is finally stopped. If the high-frequency electric power is modualted in this manner, the intensity of the laser output can be modualted. |
