PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for polysubstituted phosphonate derivatives, intermediate for synthesis of conjugated dienes, etc., by reacting a specific aldehyde with an acetonylphosphonate in the presence of a titanium tetrachloride.base catalyst. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aldehyde expressed by the formula ArCHO [Ar represents phenyl substituted with F, Cl, Br, nitro, chloromethyl, trifluoromethyl, -CO2R<7> (R<7> represents 1-5C alkyl), etc.] is reacted with (B) an acetonyl phosphonate expressed by formula I (R<1> and R<2> each represent 1-20C aliphatic group or R<1> and R<2> together form 2-ethylene, 1,3-propylene or 1,4-butylene optionally substituted with 1-4 1-3C alkyl groups) in the presence of a titanium tetrachloride.base catalyst to afford alpha-benzylidene-acetonylphosphonates expressed by formula II. |
