To reduce the pollutants (NOx and CO) in the exhaust gases from combustion, a method for burning liquid or gaseous fuels in which a mixture consisting of fuel and primary air and secondary air are supplied for the combustion process, a proportion of the exhaust gases formed during combustion is mixed in with the primary air and a proportion of the fuel is mixed in with the secondary air.
