A transverse engine with a gearbox parallel to the axis of the engine shaft is used to drive a motor vehicle with at least two driven axles. The gearbox drives one driven axle 5 via a spur-gear drive 1, 2 and, via a first bevel drive 7, 8 connected to this spur-gear drive 1, 2, a propshaft and a second bevel drive, drives the second driven axle. To allow the axis of the first bevel drive 7, 8 to be placed very close to the gearbox without having to accept an increase in the size of the drive pinion of the second bevel drive, a planetary gear mechanism 10 is installed between the first bevel drive 7, 8 and the propshaft. <IMAGE> |
