A cooking utensil for gas burners is to be designed such that it can be securely fixed to the burner and at the same time ensures optimum utilisation of the burning gas. This is achieved essentially in that the base of the cooking utensil is equipped, in the region of its circumference, with a downward-projecting toothed rim, the tooth gaps of which form openings, so that the webs directed radially with respect to the gas burner and on which the cooking utensil rests during the cooking process lock into some of these openings and prevent the flames from leaping up over the edge of the base of the cooking utensil.
