Novel bacteriophage-resistant strains of Bacillus thuringiensis have activity against Coleoptera, e.g. strain MT-38 of the known microbe Bacillus thuringiensis var. san diego (B.t.sd.). The parent B.t.sd. and B.T.Sd. strain MT-38 have the same spectrum of activity against a number of coleopteran pests. B.t.sd. is phage-sensitive, whereas B.t.sd. strain MT-38 is phage-resistant. This difference makes B.T.Sd. strain MT-38 the preferred microbe for the preparation of pesticidal preparations active against Coleoptera.
|
