This invention provides smoking compositions which contain a novel heteroaromatic flavorant-release additive as illustrated by the following structure: <CHEM> where R is hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl group; R<1> is hydrogen or a C1-C8 alkyl group; and R<2> is a C3-C12 aromatic substituent; with the proviso that at least two R<1> groups are C1-C8 alkyl radicals. Under typical cigarette smoking conditions, 2-isopropylpyrazine and acetophenone are released as pyrolysis products, and enhance the flavor and aroma of the mainstream and sidestream smoke.
