PURPOSE:To analyze Fe, Cr, Ni, etc. which are impurites in sodium polysulfide (Na2Sx) with high accuracy by burning the Na2Sx in gaseous oxygen flow to decrease Na and S to about the level at which the atomic absorption analysis is not hindered. CONSTITUTION:The Na2Sx sample is heated and distilled at about 420 deg.C in a high vacuum until about 20% thereof remains. This Na2Sx is thereafter put into a crucible 4 in a combustion tube 1 and a gaseous mixture composed of gaseous argon 9 and gaseous oxygen 10 is admitted into the combustion tube 1 to burn the Na2Sx at about 750 deg.C. The Na and S are thereby converted to aerosol (Na2O) and combustion gas (SO2) which are discharged from a discharge port 8 and are captured in traps 14, 14'. The Na and S in the Na2Sx sample remaining in the crucible 4 at this time are decreased to about the level at which the atomic absorption analysis is not hindered. The Fe, Cr, Ni, etc., which are the impurities in the sample are then subjected to the atomic absorption analysis. Since the Na and S to disturb the atomic absorption analysis are removed, the transition metal such as Fe, Cr and Ni which are the trace impurities are analyzed with the high accuracy. |
