PURPOSE:To obtain an external preparation for the skin free from side effects, treating and preventing inflammation of the skin, containing an extract of mace. CONSTITUTION:Mace, an aril of a plant of the family Myristicaceae, is extracted with a nonpolar solvent such as n-hexane or by steam distillation and then extracted with a lower alcohol such as ethanol. The extract is pharmaceutically manufactured directly as it is or the extracting solvent is removed and the extract alone or together with glycyrrhizic acid or a derivative thereof useful as an external preparation for the skin, vitamin E, allantoin, further surface active agent, perfume, excipient and base is pharmaceutically manufactured to give the aimed substance. The amount of the extract of mace is 0.01-20%, preferably 0.10-10% in the external preparation for the skin. The aimed substance is widely usable for preventing chapped skin, improving chapped skin, preventing sunburn of the skin, razor rash, rash by baby napkin and hot feeling after sun-burn of the skin. |
