TREATMENT OF HEAVY OIL ASH

PURPOSE:To recover the carbon content of the heavy oil ash by gasification, absorb valuable metals therein into molten metal, and also absorb noxious substances therein into molten slag in order to turn them innoxious by a method wherein the heavy oil ash is charged into the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:The heavy oil ash 5 is blown through a lance 3 or the like into a melting furnace 1, within which the high temperature molten metal 2 is stored. The heavy oil ash blown into the molten metal 2 receives heat from the molten metal 2 and the valuable metals such as Ni, V, Fe, and the like in the ash are dissolved into the molten metal 2 and further the noxious substances, which cause environmental troubles, such as NH3, SO4, Pb, and the like are decomposed and fixed in the molten slag 6 and furthermore the carbon content is gasified in order to be recovered at a recovery duct 4. As for the melting furnace 1 according to the present treatment, generally a converter is employed and also air furnace, electric furnace, electrolytic furnace or the like can be employed. As for the charging of the heavy oil ash, because the heavy oil ash is originally powdery (the particle diameter if 0.5mm. or smaller), the casting from the upper part of the furnace in granular form, which is formed by a granulator or the like after being mixed with binder or water, can be employed except the blowing-in through the lance as mentioned above.
