PURPOSE:To enhance stability of a developing solution and to reduce its amount to be replenished by incorporating at least one of specified compounds in the developing solution containing a kind of hydroquinone. CONSTITUTION:The alkaline developing solution containing as a developing agent one of the hydroquinones contains at least one of the compounds represented by the formula shown on the right in which X is a trivalent atomic group necessary to form a condensed ring, and each of R<1> and R<2> is alkylene, arylene, alkenylene, or aralkylene, and each may be same or different from each other, thus permitting the obtained developing solution to be enhanced in stability against air oxidation without promoting silver stains while maintaining the concentration of a concentrated developing agent and to be reduced in a necessary amount of a replenishing solution. |
