PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for the space for an image-to-image gap electrostatic discharging device and to realize compact constitution by equipping an electrophotographic part with an inserting means which puts a beam expanding means on the optical path of a laser beam and an insertion control means which performs image-to-image gap erasure. CONSTITUTION:When the exposure of an image is finished, a control part 5 operates a solenoid 19 at a no-image part to put a slit 18 on the optical path. The laser beam 6 reaches a photosensitive drum 11 through the slit 18 to perform the image-to-image erasure. At this time, the laser beam 6 becomes out of focus on the photosensitive drum through the diffracting operation of the slit 18, namely, increases in beam diameter to reduce an irregularity in the quantity of light, thereby carrying out electrostatic discharging with a small irregularity in erasure. Thus, the laser beam from a laser scanning device is used to perform the image-to-image discharging, so no image-to-image gap discharging lamp is required and the compact laser printer is obtained. |
