PRODUCTION OF PLASTIC OPTICAL FIBER

摘要

PURPOSE:To prevent the diffusion of the oxygen in the air into a plastic optical fiber and to easily obtain the low-loss optical fiber by maintaining the region where the surface temp. of the fiber after discharge of the fiber from a spinning nozzle is at the glass transition temp. of the core or above in an inert gaseous atmosphere at the time of spinning the above-mentioned optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The fiber is discharged from the spinning nozzle and the region where the surface temp. of the discharged fiber is at the glass transition temp. (Tg) of the core or above is maintained in the inert gaseous atmosphere at the time of producing the low-loss plastic optical fiber by using a transparent polymer having good transmittability as the core. The diffusion of the oxygen in the air into the fiber and the consequent formation of colored components by the oxidation of the core and sheath polymer and the residual impurities are prevented. The low-loss optical fiber is thus easily produced.
