PURPOSE:To execute recording and reproducing at a high speed with high sensitivity while maintaining the advantage of the high contrast of a thin Ge-Te film and to record, reproduce and to erase information by incorporating three elements of Bi, Ge and Te into a thin film for recording formed on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The tin film for optical recording which is capable of recording and reproducing the information by utilizing the change in the optical constant arising from a phase transition induced by projection of a light beam is formed on the substrate. The three elements; Bi, Ge and Te are incorporated as constituting elements into this thin film for optical recording. The atomic ratios of these three elements are confined within the range expressed by the region inner than the polygon connecting the respective points; A(Bi0Ge30Te70), B(Bi30Ge20Te50), C(Bi30Ge45Te25), D(Bi15Ge60Te25), E(Bi15Ge70Te15), and F(Bi0Ge85 Te15) successively by segments as the triangular coordinates peaking at Bi100Ge0 Te0, Bi0Ge100Te0 and Bi0Ge0Te100. |
