Aluminium powder, with a degree of purity of at least 99.5 % of Al and a particle size of 0.04 to 0.5 mm, is treated with an alkali metal oleate, especially potassium oleate, which is incorporated into the aluminium powder in the form of an aqueous paste containing 30 to 80 % by weight of oleate. The quantity used for the treatment corresponds to 50 to 500, especially 100 to 200, ppm of potassium oleate calculated as dry substance in relation to the aluminium powder. Application as additive for the preparation of titanium dioxide by vapour phase oxidation of TiCl4. No drawing.
