PURPOSE:To obtain the title catalyst component which provides a powdery polymer having a high stereoregularity, a high bulk density and a high fluidity, by method wherein a Ti-contg. solid obtd. by bringing a specified Mg-contg. solid into contact with a halogen-contg. alcohol and then with an electron donor compd. and a Ti compd. is brought into contact with an olefin in the presence of an organoaliminum compd. CONSTITUTION:Metallic Mg, a halogenated hydrocarbon of formula RX (where R is a 1-20C alkyl, aryl or cycloalkyl; X is a halogen) and an alkoxy compd. of the formula as shown (where X<1> is H, a halogen or a 1-20C hydrocarbon group; M is B, C, Al, Si or P; R<1> is a 1-20C hydrocarbon group; m is the valency of M and m>n>=0) are brought into contact with each other to give an Mg-contg. solid. The obtd. solid is brought into contact with a halogen-contg. alcohol and then with an electron donor compd. such as dibutyl phthalate and a Ti compd. such as TiCl4 to give a Ti-contg. solid. The obtd. solid is brought into contact with an olefin in the presence of an organoaluminum compd. (e.g., triethylaluminum) to give the title catalyst component contg. 0.1-100g of an olefin polymer per gram of the Ti-contg. solid.
