In the process for producing a rubber-covered cylinder for printing and coating machines, first of all a film is wound around a form for forming a sliding sleeve and then an elastomeric covering is applied and bonded to the sliding sleeve. In order for the production of such rubber-covered cylinders to be as inexpensive as possible, the covering is vulcanised after it has been applied and the film is applied only in such a thickness that the sliding sleeve bears against the form on account of a prestress brought about by the shrinking pressure of the vulcanised covering.
