Method and arrangement for drainage of a paper or cardboard web by using a treatment cylinder 10, the web that is to be dried and which is supported by a felt 17 being carried against the outer surface 11' of the treatment cylinder. In the invention the water is fed to the porous surface layer 11 of the treatment cylinder 10, and the thus water-filled porous surface layer 11 of the treatment cylinder and the web W that is to be dried and which is supported by the felt 17 and carried against the outer surface thereof are guided for heat treatment so that the water in the said layer 11 is vaporised. With the steam thus produced the water is blown from the fibres of the web W to the felt 17, tensioning T of the felt F and/or the tensioning fabric(s) 16 that is/are led thereto produces a pressure, which presses the web W against the surface layer 11 of the treatment sector of the treatment cylinder 10, the counter-pressure of which is formed by the processing steam pressure. <IMAGE>
