PURPOSE: To obtain a composite material excellent in thermoformability, heat resistance, etc., and suitable as an automobile formed ceiling material, etc., by laminating thermoplastic resin films onto both surfaces of a matlike material of inorganic fibers and then fusing platy materials to both surfaces of the resultant laminate by heating, pressurizing and compressing. CONSTITUTION: (A) Inorganic fibers such as glass fibers chopped to preferably 5-200 μm length are formed into a matlike material by, e.g. a carding machine and (B) thermoplastic resin films having preferably 50-500 μm thickness (e.g. polyethylene) are then laminated onto the matlike material from both surfaces thereof. (C) Platy materials fusible in a molten state of the component B (e.g. polyester sheets having the surfaces subjected to mold release treatment) are laminated onto both surfaces of the laminate and the resultant laminate is then heated to the melting temperature of the component B or above, pressurized and compressed. After the depressurization, the thickness of the resultant sheet is increased and the obtained sheet is then cooled to produce the objective composite material. |
