SUBSTRATES FOR THE ASSAY OF ENZYMES

Disclosed are reagents for enzyme assay comprising a substrate consonant with a given enzyme to be assayed, labelled with a chromogenic group which, on action of the given enzyme, is liberated to give a coloured product, the chromogenic group being of formula (I), where Aryl is any aryl group, n is 0-3, R and R' are any compatible group, Het is any heterocyclic group capable of extending the delocalisation of electrons from the aryl group and X is O or NR, R being any suitable group that does not hinder enzyme action. Also disclosed are colour enhancing stopping buffers which are suitable for supply as a solution for use in diagnostic kits.
