PROCESS FOR EXTRACTING PHYSIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE SUBSTANCE FROM PINE SEED SHELLS AND ANTIINFECTANT PREPARED MAINLY FROM THE EXTRACT

A process for extracting physiologically active substance from pine seed shells is disclosed, which comprises dipping pine seed shells in an alkaline aqueous solution to extract, filtering the solution to remove impurities, concentrating the resulting extract, adjusting pH of the extract, then lyophilizing it to obtain a powdery physiologically active substance containing acidic polysaccharides as major components. An antiinfectant containing the thus obtained acidic polysaccharides has a granulocyte-activating ability much better than that of conventional tumoricidal polysaccharides.
