The invention relates to a magnetic separator for sorting weakly magnetisable substances and is used preferably for separating weakly magnetisable substances, such as non-ferrous metals, minerals and ores. The magnetic separator according to the invention is constructed in such a manner that a tongue-shaped pole shoe having a protruding bulbous nose is arranged above or in front of the vertical central axis of the profiled pole roller. The profiled pole roller is preferably constructed so as to be of a helical shape. An essential condition for realising the solution according to the invention is that the curves of the bulbous nose have a greater curvature than the radii or curvatures of the profile tips of the pole roller. Using this magnetic separator according to the invention, it is achieved that the sorting of magnetic from non-magnetic particles takes place even before the detachment point of the discharge parabola between a pole roller and a pole shoe, so that mixing on the sloping track of the profiled pole roller can no longer occur.
