PURPOSE:To enable formation of fiber reinforced silicon nitride-based ceramic having high strength and high toughness, by blending silicon nitride with silicon carbide fibers and a specific sintering auxiliary. CONSTITUTION:Fiber reinforced silicon nitride-based ceramic wherein silicon nitride is blended with 5-50wt.% silicon carbide fibers and the following sintering auxiliary. Namely, the sintering auxiliary is (a) 0.1-30wt.% at least one of an oxide, nitride or carbide of titanium or zirconium, complex oxide of titanium and zirconium, magnesia or spinel or (b) 0.1-15wt.% at least one selected from an oxide of rare earth, alumina and aluminum nitride and 0.1-15wt.% at least one selected from an oxide, nitride or carbide of titanium or zirconium, compound oxide of titanium and zirconium, magnesia or spinel. |
