<p>A clamping device for arresting the belt straps of motor vehicle safety belts in the event of accidents has a clamping wedge (3) with a toothed clamping face (5) mounted on two adjacent sensor balls (10) which in case of accident bring the clamping wedge (3) supported on a sensor mass (11) against the belt strap (18). Through a special design of the clamping teeth an almost slip-free locking, and finally wedging, is achieved. The geometric arrangement in conjunction with the frictional characteristics ensures automatic unlocking. Through specially selected frictional characteristics and by means of sliding coatings with reduced friction a gentle clamping of the belt strap and a high loading capacity are obtained. The clamping device is of simple construction, is composed of few pieces, therefore inexpensive, light and compact. This self-sensing clamping principle can also be used in deflection clamps, by superposing inside a housing (2') two identical wedges (3') with their inclined sliding faces (4') facing each other.</p> |
