An infinitely variable, hydro-mechanical gear system for motor vehicles has at least two speed-change ranges and the infinitely variable control of the gear is achieved by a hydrostatic gear (9). A hydrostatic block (9), a four-shaft, summing planetary gear (210) and a second, three-shaft planetary gear (11) form basic modules which are constantly linked with each other, in any combination of gears. Couplings (12) link the driven shaft (3) with one of the shafts of the summing planetary gear (210) or with a shaft of the second planetary gear (11), according to the speed range chosen. The frame (28) of the second planetary gear (11) can be linked to the housing by coupling means (71) alternatively shaped as a friction gear or as form-engaging gear, or as a form- and load-engaging gear.
