A device for cleaning and humidifying gases, in particular air, is proposed. At least one rotationally driven wetting body (13, 14) is arranged in a housing (10), is partially submerged in a liquid (34) there and is wetted by the latter. A fan (23, 25) draws in the gas to be cleaned, supplies it to the wetting body (13, 14) and carries it away from there again. An ionising device (37-42) is arranged in the gas stream in front of the wetting body (13, 14). Alternatively, or additionally, this wetting body and/or the liquid (34) is charged with a potential which attracts ionised particles. As a result, the drawn-in particles, in particular dirt particles and pollen, are ionised and attracted by the wetting body (13, 14). Due to this attraction and the improved electrical adhesion, a substantially larger proportion of particles compared with conventional devices is withdrawn from the air stream and deposited in the liquid (34). <IMAGE>
