The endoscopic apparatus comprises an image pickup optical system, a solid state image pickup element for converting an optical image of an object formed by said optical system to electrical signals and a television circuit unit for converting the output signal from the solid state image pickup element to a video signal. A memory stores the video signal from the television circuit unit and a push-button switch supplies a freeze command signal to display the video signal under frozen condition. A display shows a real image and/or a frozen image.
