<p>The invention uses a multiple beam cathode ray tube (6) to write a television type raster, or frame, with the maximum data rate and writing speed reduced by a factor equal to the number of simultaneously operating beams. To overcome excessive slope in the picture (Fig.4A), a stepped deflection (Fig.4B) is used such that the majority of vertical deflection occurs after a particular horizontal sweep is completed and before the successive sweep begins. The scanning speed is further increased by using an optical transmission filter (20) capable of selectively transmitting separate colours emitted by the screen of the cathode ray tube wherein a portion (20A) of the filter may be set to transmit the next colour in the colour sequence while the remainder of the filter (20B) is transmitting the colour presently displayed.</p> |
