PURPOSE:To eliminate the waste of operation by deciding the moving direction of a lens in the initial state of mount-climbing operation. CONSTITUTION:High frequency components in a central sampling area in the middle of the screen and in a surrounding sampling area arranged around the center area are integrated and compared with each other and the moving direction of the lens in the initial state at the start of mount-climbing is decided by using the principle of a curved image face. Thus, the curved image provided with an image pickup optical system itself is utilized to decide easily the displacing direction of the lens at the start of mount-climbing in focusing thereby attaining smooth focusing. |
