摘要 PURPOSE:To inhibit an avalanche discharging phenomenon from entering when sample-emitted electrons are attracted detection part or providing a quenching gas generation material. CONSTITUTION:A sample 10 is irradiated with light from a light source unit 9 to emit electrons, which are admitted in through the detection windows 2 of the electron detection part 1 and attracted to the anode ring 4 with an electric field determined by the electrode voltages of the anode ring 4, a 1st grid electrode 5, and a 2nd grid electrode 6. Then a gas discharging phenomenon is caused and an voltage applied to the anode ring 3 drops to generate a voltage pulse. This voltage pulse is amplified 18 and then counted 24. Secondary electrodes emitted with light and positive ions generated by the gas discharging phenomenon are adsorbed by the quenching gas, e.g. gaseous methane produced by a quenching gas producing material 30 and neutralized to inhibit the avalanche discharging phenomenon.
