PURPOSE:To uniformly realize the high pretilt angle of liquid crystal molecules with good reproducibility so that a good-quality large-capacity display is obtd. at a high yield by using a resin layer which is fluorinated on the surface as an oriented film. CONSTITUTION:A polyimide layer, polyamide layer or polyamic acid layer is formed on a substrate and the surface is fluorinated by a plasma treatment using a fluorine compd. and is further subjected to a rubbing treatment to form the oriented film in order to realize the above-mentioned display. Nitrogen trifluoride, 1, 4 freon and 2, 6 freon are preferable as the fluorine compd. The compd. having 100% purity is used or said compd. is used after diluting the same with an inert gas. The hydrophobic property of the oriented film is thereby enhanced and the good large-capacity display is enabled. |
