The invention relates to a transversely pliable suction device made of dimensionally flexible material for grasping the valve bottom of a valve bag, with one or more suction chambers having suction bores which face the valve to be grasped and which are located in the plane chamber bottom. There is to be provided a device of this type in which a reliable grasping of the bag bottom by means of the plane suction-chamber bottom or bottoms and a like opening of the valve bag are guaranteed. At the same time, the spreading extent of the valve bag, that is to say the distance between the two initially parallel valve walls, is to be variable. For this purpose, provision is made for the device to have, in a parallel plane (E, K, N, R) facing away from the plane (F, H, M, T) of the suction-chamber bottom (11, 24, 35, 51), one or more pressure chambers (10, 26-28, 38-41, 60) which take effect in this parallel plane and during the loading of which the device is curved transversely. <IMAGE>
