Upper and lower isolating contacts (interrupt contacts) (32, 34) and components (50, 52, 44, 46, 48) which are electrically connected thereto are arranged in the interior (12) of the switch cabinet (10). In order to provide electric shock protection from the lower isolating contacts (34) and the further components (50, 52) connected thereto, a protection device (56) can be pushed into lateral guides (26) and guide elements (28) which are arranged on the side walls (16) of the switch cabinet (10). A protective plate (60) is hinged on an isolating plate (58) by means of a hinge (62), and lateral guide devices (68) are arranged on the protective plate (60). The protective device (56) is pushed by means of the lateral guide devices (68) in advance into the lateral guides (26), the guide devices (68) sliding into the guide elements (28), while the isolating plate (58) is pushed forwards into the region between the lower and upper isolating contacts (32, 34). When the isolating plate (58) has been pushed in completely, the protective plate (60) runs parallel to the guide elements (28). <IMAGE>
